Who is Kalo?

I'm Kalo, also known as Kayla Weiss.  I was named in honor of my maternal grandmother, Kalo, as is customary in our family.  When my parents named me, everyone said, “what are you really going to call her?”, so my parents gave me the English name of Kayla as well.  I always say “I’m the only Kalo under 90.”  Kalo certainly isn't the most common name.  I've had my name mutilated for years in school, and was given funny nicknames like Kahlua, Koala, and Cologne.  It was frustrating, but I only realized the beauty of my name later in life.

The name Kalo comes from an ancient Greek word for beauty. As I mentioned, I'm named for my maternal grandmother, who we call "Nonnie."  I was lucky to be raised in the same city as Nonnie, and have fond memories of times we spent together having sleepovers, going out for ice cream and to community theater.  Later in her life, she'd sleep over for holidays, sharing my room with me.  All this has forged a bond between us that is hard to describe.  Nonnie Kalo is a part of me in many ways.  It is my honor to name my business for my beautiful grandmother, Kalo Nassi, who will always and forever be simply beautiful.
